        New Hampshire DWI Lawyers

If you have been convicted of DWI-1st offense in New Hampshire, and have no other DWI convictions in the past ten (10) years, you will be required to complete the Impaired Driver Intervention Program (IDIP). The IDIP Program is a twenty (20) hour course which costs approximately $600. An intensive weekend course, known as the WIDIP, is also available. The New Hampshire Division of Motor Vehicles maintains a state-wide list of approved IDIP Programs. The IDIP Program consists of a one (1) hour intake interview, twenty (20) hours of alcohol and other drug education classes, and a one (1) hour Exit Evaluation Assessment by a N.H. Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADAC). If you reside in another state, you can attend the New Hampshire IDIP Program, or an out-of-state approved Program in the state in which you reside. You should make certain that the out-of-state program is acceptable to the New Hampshire Division of Motor Vehicles before you enroll.

At the conclusion of the IDIP Program you will be evaluated for follow-up treatment. Your license or privileges to drive in New Hampshire will not be restored until you have successfully completed all follow-up treatment and after-care recommendations, if any. This treatment may include individual alcohol counseling or participation in AA meetings. If you object to the IDIP’s recommendation for follow-up treatment, you may obtain a second opinion from a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADAC) at your own expense, and appeal the recommendation of follow-up treatment to the Department of Safety.

In New Hampshire, after-care is automatically recommended if the driver’s blood alcohol concentration (BAC) was .16% or greater or .08% if the driver was under twenty-one (21) years of age. Follow-up treatment is also automatically recommended if the driver has had multiple alcohol or drug related motor vehicle arrests.
