How to Check Motorcycle Tires Before an August Ride

A quick visual check cannot confirm proper inflation. A motorcycle tire can look normal while being several pounds low. Use an accurate pressure gauge before riding, after the motorcycle has been parked long enough for the tires to be cold.

Follow the pressure listed in the owner’s manual or on the motorcycle’s tire information label. The number molded into a tire sidewall is not a substitute for the motorcycle manufacturer’s recommended operating pressure.

Before a long August ride:

  • Measure the front and rear tire pressure while the tires are cold.
  • Use the recommended setting for solo riding or for a passenger and cargo.
  • Check tread depth and wear indicators.
