Concord Man Crashes While Texting and Driving

A Concord resident recently lost control of his motor vehicle and crashed into another vehicle while trying to send a text message on his cell phone, according to a recent news article published by New Hampshire news outlet WMUR.

According to police, the 23-year-old driver was traveling along Interstate 93 when he began driving erratically. He was texting and failed to pay proper attention to the road. While trying to send his text message, he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the back of a truck. The young driver then spun out of control and came to a stop in the breakdown lane on I-93.

Thankfully, no one was injured in the New Hampshire car crash. The driver was charged with violating New Hampshire’s texting while driving law and also with reckless driving.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) distracted driving results in over half a million car accident injuries and over 6,000 deaths ever year. Drivers who are texting or using other handheld devices while driving are four times as likely to be involved in a car accident and to be injured. Of all the possible distractions a driver may face, NHTSA classifies texting while driving as one of the worst, and many states, including New Hampshire, have passed laws prohibiting drivers from sending text messages while driving.
